VR-360 Resources
There are thousands of freely available VR-360 available on YouTube and other streaming services, most of which can be accessed via a Google Cardboard and a mobile device. Organizations, such as NASA-JPL and the National Geographic Society are steadily building their libraries of both academic and entertainment oriented VR-360 experiences. Below are some additional YouTube channels that contain large collections of VR-360 videos with some curated samples.

AR Activity/Use Suggestions with HP Reveal (Aurasma)
HP Reveal, formerly Aurasma, offers several quick ways to incorporate augmented reality in a meaningful manner to a variety of classrooms. A .PDF of 41 potential uses of AR in the classroom provided by the Edinburgh City Council's Digital Learning Team can be found here. However, below are a few of the more common uses to get you started.
AR Art Galleries Sample Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE4CxNxQxxk Suggested Subject Area: Fine Arts Grades: K-12, Post-Sec Summary: Using HP Reveal (Aurasma), students create accompanying videos for art they have created, in which the art acts as the triggering image/marker. Videos can consist of artist bios, explanations of the techniques used to create the art, an explanation of their motivation or even a reflection on the creation process. AR Research Posters Sample Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7LUd7rhStE Suggested Subject Area: Science and Social Studies Grades: K-12, Post-Sec Summary: Research and presentation posters are a very static and limited means of transmitting information, but are useful as they do not require special equipment and can be put in place unattended, for significant periods of time. By using HP Reveal/Aurasma, all the benefits of using posters remain, but important elements can now be elaborated on or augmented with media files, with specific markers incorporated into each of the poster’s subsections. AR Enhanced Tours or Walks Sample Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JDTrAN1oSc Suggested Subject Area: Any Grades: K-12, Post-Sec Summary: Using HP Reveal (Aurasma), students create a series of videos to enhance various tours or walks with additional useful information which could be posted on tags or markers along the tour. For example, to promote understanding of the importance of local, natural materials and resources to First Nations’ ways of life, relevant plants and trees along a nature walk could be have markers placed near them (with permission), explaining what they are or how they were used. Local First Nations’ elders could also be invited to participate to share their knowledge of the materials cultural significance. AR Equipment "How To" Guides Sample Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xInuGQRBPTc Suggested Subject Area: Applied Skills and Math Classes Grades: K-12, Post-Sec Summary: HP Reveal (Aurasma) can be used to both introduce and provide refreshers in the use of specific equipment being accessed by students. Either through images of the equipment items themselves, or in the case of larger pieces, markers placed directly on the equipment, students can have videos triggered that explain their purposes and safe operation. For example, in a home-economics/fabric arts class, students can use the image of a bobbin to trigger a video on how to thread it and load it into a sewing machine. This would also be useful in math classes, with various common equation solving tools (eg. BEDMAS or FOIL) being used to trigger explanatory videos. It may also be beneficial to have the students create some or all of the "how to" videos themselves, adding them to a personal library to access as needed. |
